Every four years, INSEE is carrying out a national survey on business creations and those who run them. The latest figures, recently published, relate to the creations of the year 2018 and demonstrate the dynamism of Reunion in this area. The number of business creations has increased since 2016 on the island and reached 6,600 in 2018. INSEE notes the same trend at the national level and in Reunion : a growing number of business creators start their project with very little financial means. On the island 48% started with less than 4,000 euros, while they were only 41% in this case in 2014. Less than a third of them benefited from public support in 2018, in particular aid to unemployed business creators or buyers. Loans for creation or aid for innovation remain little used. Other lessons from the survey : the level of qualifications of business creators is increasing but remains modest. Only 28% of them are graduates of the 2nd or 3rd cycle of higher education, which is significantly less than at the national level (41%).
