Inspired by the National Package Council, association created in mainland France in 1997, a Reunion packaging committee was created on March 30 as part of the TCO tropical and island innovation campus. Joint initiative of the Qualitropic competitiveness cluster and ADIR, this committee aims to address all subjects in order to promote “the right packaging”, that is to say packaging that is truly useful and has the least impact possible : eco-design and source reduction, production, utilisation, recycling, waste export, AGEC law and strengthening of regulations, etc. The Réunion Packaging committee aims to bring together all the parties concerned : packaging manufacturers, companies using packaging, tri centers, eco-organisms, Ademe, communities, consular chambers, state services, consumer and environmental associations… It began as soon as it was installed by organizing workshops that defined the most urgent priorities. The Réunion Packaging committee is led by Virginie Gallet, packaging engineer at Qualitropic, Jean-Claude Leblanc, president of the ADIR environment commission and Anne-Gaëlle Hoarau, ADIR circular economy and waste project manager.
