Installed since 1991 in the old sugar factory of the same name, The Stella Matutina museum evokes in the permanent journey of its collections the history of the population of the island, that of agriculture and sugar industry, of the company resulting from the planting economy. He had never been the subject of a full book presentation.

Under the leadership of the Museum Director, Bernard Leveneur, author of the work, this stroll highlights the cultural and economic particularities of Reunion Island, from his intersecting stories. The collections pell-mell evoke the history of labor, sugar techniques, the links between sweets and daily life, with ensembles calling on the memory of the Reunion Islanders, like the reconstruction of a Sinwois shop or a monumental “air current car”, major element of the room evoking tan lontan. Unusual objects, rich iconographic documentation, industrial remains, testimonies of former workers and archive documents can be discovered at the Stella Matutina museum, mirror of the history of Reunion. The publication of the book was made official on Wednesday May 14 at the Stella Matutina Museum.

This book, published by Éditions Hervé Chopin, is the result of a partnership between the Stella Matutina Museum and the Clément Foundation on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the renovation of the museum.
