The Permanent Commission of the Region voted on March 28, the implementation of a new intervention framework for the financing of the coastal artisanal fishing sector.
Goals : Improve the existing ship of ships and support the installation of young fishermen. “The little artisanal fishing of Reunion is indeed experiencing structural difficulties linked to the aging of shipowners, fleet, as well as under demanding conditions of exercise, justifies the community. This situation is exacerbated by the recurring constraints caused by restrictive capacity relationships at Europe, impacting in particular access to the resources made available within the framework of the European Fund for Maritime Affairs, fishing and aquaculture and outside this fund ". The region notably wants to help them meet the security requirements to change their navigation category and go prospect new fishing areas higher offshore, thus diversifying their sources of income towards pelagic species, at the same time reducing pressure on coastal stocks. This system also plans to help the installation of fishermen under the age of 40. In the absence of other contribution, The region will finance this system on its own funds. A first envelope of one million euros was released.
