Richard Lorion took over as director of the Réunion Indian Ocean School of Engineering at the start of the January school year.
He succeeds François Garde, director of the school from 2021 to 2025. Richard Lorion, lecturer in computer engineering, automation and signal processing and researcher within the Energy-Lab laboratory, had himself directed the IUT of Réunion for ten years. He was also an unsuccessful candidate for the presidency of the University of La Réunion., at the beginning of last year, after the suspension of Frédéric Miranville's functions by the Ministry of Higher Education. Richard Lorion was beaten by Jean-François Hoarau, economics professor, on February 17, 2025 due to the unfavorable vote of some of the external personalities of the board of directors, even though he had obtained the majority of votes from teachers and researchers a few weeks earlier. At ESIROI, he begins a five-year mandate of which he has defined the main axes : “Strengthening the attractiveness of the school, the finalization of its integration into the Polytech network, the development of synergies on the Terre-Sainte campus and the affirmation of internationalization as a strategic lever for development. »
