The glorious, national nature reserve
France has chosen the date of June 8, oceans day, to transform the marine natural park of the Glorieuses archipelago into a national nature reserve. This classification “responds to France’s commitments and the responsibility it bears to protect the terrestrial and marine biodiversity of this fragile space., including more than 3,000 listed species », underlines the French government. The glorious, located at the northern entrance to the Mozambique Channel, part of the Scattered Islands claimed by Madagascar. July 2, the Malagasy Ministry of Foreign Affairs deplored an “arbitrary approach by the French government”, going “against the commitment of both parties to refrain from any unilateral act during the duration of negotiations for the peaceful settlement of the dispute” relating to the “Sparse”.

Regional drug circuits
By boat or plane, narcotics actively circulate between the islands of the Indian Ocean. The NGO Global Initiative and journalists from the area made public in June the results of an investigation showing that Madagascar has become a hub for hard drug trafficking. (heroin, cocaine but also new chemical drugs) and cannabis. Flows seem significant between the Big Island and Mauritius, as well as towards the Seychelles. The main flow which concerns Reunion seems to be that of the export of cannabis to Mauritius by sea, as confirmed by some recent seizures.
