Economic freedom in Africa : Mauritius in mind
Mauritius arrives at first place, For the African whole, of the 2025 ranking of the economic freedom index established by the American conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation. Established on the database collected in the 2nd half of 2023 and in the 1st half of 2024, This index estimated 176 countries. 15th in the world, Mauritius ranks among "generally free" countries. The Seychelles appear in 52nd place and in 4th African row. Madagascar as the Comoros are considered to be “practically not free” countries and ranks around 104th in the world (12th African) and 138th in the world (31st African, out of 51). Globally, The country considered the most economically free by The Heritage Foundation is Singapore, ahead of Switzerland, Ireland, Taiwan and Luxembourg.

This index is established each year by The Economist Intelligence Unit, linked to the British group which publishes the weekly The Economist. The sister island appears 20th in the world, It is considered a "full democracy". His following Africans are Botswana (35e world), CAP-VERT (37e) and South Africa (43e), all considered "imperfect democracies". Madagascar, "Hybrid diet", ranks 83rd in the world (12th in Africa) and the Comoros, "Authoritarian regime", 124th in the world (31st in Africa on 50). Global, Out of 167 countries studied, Norway, New Zealand, Sweden, Iceland and Switzerland are, in this order, considered the most democratic countries in the world.
