The Grand Port Maritime de la Réunion recorded a significant increase in its activity over the first six months of 2025 : overall freight traffic has exceeded 3 million tonnes, up 4 % compared to the same period in 2024.
Container traffic is approaching 190,000 EVP (twenty foot equivalent), up 2%. In tonnage, the evolution is of the same order. The number of containers in transshipment declines slightly (-3% on EVP), while domestic traffic shows a slight increase (+1% compared to 2024). In the solid bulk segment, traffic is increasing over the period (+25% compared to 2024) despite a 50% drop in bulk sugar exports. The importation of pellets for thermal power plants continues its strong growth (+84 %). After an increasing start to the year, traffic in cereals for livestock feed appears to be stabilizing (+2 %). On the other hand, bulk imports of cement and clinker fell by 25% and 46% respectively. Cumulative liquid bulk traffic is down 10%, mainly due to the decrease in diesel imports (-19,2 %) and kerosene (-8,9 %). No bulk bitumen imports have been recorded since the start of the year. Conventional goods import traffic continues to grow with an increase of 49%, while the traffic of imported vehicles and machinery is still showing a decline, with 13,715 units registered, i.e. a decrease of 6%. Finally, since the beginning of the year, 21 cruise ship stopovers were recorded, for 27,902 passengers who passed through Reunion Island, i.e. a decrease of 2% compared to 2024.
