The campaign to release sterile male mosquitoes carried out since last year in an urban area in Duparc (Sainte-Marie) by the Research Institute for Development and supported by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) resulted in an average reduction of 50 to 60% in the natural fertility of Aedes albopictus tiger mosquitoes in the study area, announces the IRD. The release campaign, conducted between July 2021 and August 2022, covered an area of 20 hectares in the Duparc district of Sainte-Marie. Bois-Rouge, neighboring neighborhood with similar characteristics, was used as an untreated control site. Between 150,000 and 250,000 male mosquitoes, Sterile Aedes albopictus were released weekly for 52 weeks.
