apprenticeship has grown significantly in France since the health crisis. Its progress was even more marked in Reunion, has just shown an INSEE study.

Between 2018 and 2024, the number of apprenticeship contracts signed has increased fivefold, growth twice as high as the national average. This trend was accompanied by a feminization and an increase in the level of diploma prepared. In 2023, almost one in two apprentices were preparing a diploma higher than the baccalaureate level while in 2018 one in two apprentices were preparing a CAP level diploma. Trade sectors, food manufacturing, services, associations and accommodation and catering concentrated the majority of apprentices over the period. The professional integration of apprentices varied depending on the level of diploma prepared. Less than 50% of former CAP apprentices were in employment six months after the end of their training, compared to 80% of those with a professional license or master’s degree. The level of integration of women is lower than that of men, it is better among apprentices who have prepared a diploma in production specialties, techniques, industrial and logistics. Women turn less often to these fields of training but more towards service specialties.
