The construction of three photovoltaic power plants started in July in the Comoros. The most important unit (6 megawatts peak) comes out of the ground in Grande Comore, the other two in Anjouan (2 MWc) and in Moheli (1 MWc). The World Bank has released funding of $43 million to support the country in its energy transition and improvement of electricity supply.. The electrification rate of the Comoros is estimated at 77%, but cuts are frequent on the three islands. A project to liberalize energy production is currently under study, to compensate for the shortcomings of the National Electricity Company of the Comoros.
