The consumer price index measured by INSEE fell 0,9% in August in Reunion. For the first time since February, energy prices have fallen (-8,1 %). The prices of unleaded fuel and diesel fell respectively by 9,3 % et 9,1 %, under the effect of the fall in world prices. The drop of 31,4% of the price of the gas bottle is due to the exceptional aid put in place by the Department and the Region, so as to block the price at 15 euros until the end of the year. Likewise, the prices of services have fallen by 1,1 %, after five consecutive months of increase. Vice versa, prices of manufactured products (+0,6 %) and those of food (+0,5 %) increased in August. Over thirteen months, from July 2021 to August 2022, prices increased by 4,6% in Reunion, which is a little less than the national average (5,9% over one year). INSEE was unable to calculate year-on-year changes over twelve months, due to not being able to carry out price readings in August 2021 due to the confinement then in force on the island. Over thirteen months, the strongest increase is in energy prices (+22,5 %) ; those of food, excluding fresh produce, increased by 6,4 %.
