TotalEnergies inaugurated a solar power plant on the 30th with an installed capacity of 3,9 megawatts peak on the old Cambaie landfill, managed by the Western Territory and whose land belongs to the municipality of Saint-Paul.

This 5 million euro installation will cover the annual electricity needs of more than 4,250 inhabitants of the island and will contribute to reducing emissions by 3,400 tonnes of CO2 annually.. Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign, 22 subscribers contributed 210,000 euros to the investment. Residents were thus able to concretely invest in the energy transition., while benefiting from direct economic benefits. Particular attention was paid to the preservation of biodiversity, on and around the site. TotalEnergies took into account the presence of Zornia gibbosa, a herbaceous plant native to Reunion Island which is the subject of a preservation procedure, from the development of the project. The design of the power plant has been adapted to protect it, environmental measures were taken during the construction phase, and monitoring of the species has been carried out since the start of exploitation of the site.
