Carried by France Active Réunion and Eaux de la Possession, the Incubator committed to the Meeting of tomorrow (EARTH) has been supporting social innovation projects on the west coast for four years. His last promotion, in September, highlighted four concrete and original projects that advance the cause of sustainable development at the local level.

The West Coast social innovation incubator launched its call for projects in April around the following themes : supporting citizens in changing behavior, preservation of natural resources and access to sustainable practices, sustainable management of water resources and protection of watersheds.
Testers of innovative and eco-responsible solutions, fight against waste, plant boxes allowing composting of green waste, waste retention nets for ocean preservation : This year, among 12 applications, four new innovative and committed projects presenting very relevant and creative solutions have been selected. The winners of this third promotion have started, end of August, their personalized support from the Incubator, for a period of 18 months. Support that includes skills sponsorship and privileged access to a network of entrepreneurs and partners.

Smartcity : communities of tester-influencers
The Smartcity association aims to create and lead communities of “tester-influencers” of innovative and eco-responsible solutions.. As is already done for other consumer products or services, the idea is to allow residents of a neighborhood or territory to become testers of new sustainable solutions, and thus fully exercise their eco-citizenship. Connected solutions for better control of energy and water consumption at home, use of dietary guidelines… The testers choose the experiment that best suits their needs, they provide feedback and share it with their loved ones and contacts. “It’s not always easy to change your habits and find turnkey solutions to make your uses more responsible. Our association wishes to help these carriers adapt their products and services to the lives and real uses of citizens”, declares Céline Fayard, Smartcity project manager.

Ver-Tical : a circular plant economy at home
Ver-Tical is a concept of indoor plants fed directly by a home bio-waste composting system (peelings, cardboard and coffee grounds). These plants are installed in modules made from recycled materials, natural and local. Both aesthetic, fun and easy to use, this innovative solution, 90% in circular economy, aims to help citizens transform their bio-waste into a sustainable resource to beautify their environment and nourish the soil. Different formats, these plants and their modules can be suitable for individuals as well as for businesses and those involved in collective catering. This is the ambition of Compost’Avenir for the Ver-Tical project. “Master composter and trainer in agroecology, my goal is to develop local solutions, useful to citizens, to the territory and the environment, to live better tomorrow”, explains Théau Davioud, founder of Compost’Avenir.

Run Green Environment : retention nets at the outlet of rainwater outlets
In a tropical and island territory like Reunion, subject to heavy precipitation concentrated over short periods, the whole point is to be able to trap waste before it ends up in the ocean. Installation of retention nets at the outlet of rainwater outlets, as is done in other regions of the world, is emerging today as a concrete solution in our territory. This young solution must nevertheless adapt to the types of waste, but also to the volumes specific to our environment ; as well as a viable and sustainable model for maintaining nets and managing recovered waste must be developed. “Engaged in the fishing federation of Reunion Island, we are committed to taking concrete action to fight against the pollution of our aquatic and oceanic environments. After having tested our nets technically, the objective is to find the best organization in connection with the different actors of the territory, in order to sustainably manage the retention and recovery of this waste recovered along the rainwater evacuation path”, explains Jonathan Grondin, president of Run Vert Environnement.
