Allowable catch totals (TAC) of Patagonian toothfish were recently set by the administration of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands for the next three years.
They amount to 4,780 tonnes per year : 3,780 for the fishing zone of the Kerguelen Islands and 1,000 tonnes for that of the Crozet Islands. TACs are down by 800 tonnes compared to the previous period, due to the risks weighing on the resource, one of the best followed in the world. This reduction translates into a reduction in the quotas allocated to each of the eight longliners authorized to fish for toothfish., according to different criteria, particularly environmental. The 2025-2026 fishing season began on September 1.
