Katy Hoarau became the first president of Medef Réunion, June 19, by emerging victorious from a triangular election which pitted her against Laurent Blériot and Yannick Berezaie.
The former president of the regional council of the order of accountants won with 58% of the votes despite the support provided by Didier Fauchard, the outgoing president, to Laurent Blériot. Initially, Didier Fauchard, who did not want to run again after nine years at the head of the employers' union, had made Yannick Berezaie his runner-up. The latter's decision to remain certainly had a bearing on the final result.. Katy Hoarau positions herself in favor of a reunified employers and a common strategy with other socio-professional organizations on the island. She takes up her duties in a difficult context for Reunion companies, faced with a decline in public procurement and which could suffer from budget cuts prepared by the government for 2026.
