The meeting welcomed 263,596 external tourists from January to June 2023, i.e. a progression of 30,1% compared to 2022, when air travel was still disrupted by the health crisis. The figure is also higher than in 2019, the reference year, highlights Reunion Island Tourism, who released this data at the beginning of October.
France remains the main source market : it alone represents 79% of arrivals. The recovery is also accelerating in other markets. European tourists (outside mainland France) represent 5,7% of total external customers (14,983 arrivals, +51 %). They are mainly Germans, Belgians and Swiss. Arrivals from the Indian Ocean region are also contributing to the recovery, with 34,951 tourists counted (+92 %), coming mainly from Mayotte (20 468) and Maurice (10 166). 5,386 tourists came from other countries in the world in the first half of the year, or 2% of the total. External tourism revenues have, they too, significantly progressed, reaching 222,7 million euros (+29,6 %).
