Tax heavens : the country blacklisted again
On October 17, the Ministers of Finance of the European Union reinstated Seychelles on the blacklist of tax havens., that they had left two years ago. Sixteen countries currently make up this list, mainly island microstates, but also Panama and Russia. This European blacklist, established since 2017 with the aim of combating tax evasion, is nevertheless criticized by non-governmental organizations for its selective vision.
Seychelles signs Samoa agreement
The Seychelles signed the Samoa agreement in mid-November, the new cooperation agreement between the European Union and the Organization of African States, Caribbean and Pacific (OEACP). The new partnership agreement, which succeeds the Cotonou partnership agreement signed in 2000, will serve as a new legal framework for EU relations with 79 countries, including 47 African countries, 16 Caribbean countries, 15 Pacific countries, as well as the Maldives. It covers six priority areas : democracy and human rights, sustainable economic growth and development, climate change, human and social development, peace and security, migration and mobility. The European Union is a strategic economic partner for Seychelles, particularly in the areas of fishing and tourism.
