Equipment for fisheries observers
Fisheries observers in the southwest Indian Ocean were given 90,000 euros worth of equipment, early September at the headquarters of the Indian Ocean Commission (WATCH) in Mauritius. They operate within the framework of the fisheries monitoring plan managed by the IOC as part of the Ecofish program., launched five years ago and financially supported by the European Union. The equipment consists of personal safety equipment, navigation and tracking tools (GPS, accessories) as well as computer equipment for collecting and entering data at sea. Fisheries observation consists of boarding vessels to collect data on catches, rejections, and interactions with the marine environment.
