NRL : the State agrees to pay for the viaduct solution

The date of March 16, 2022 will be marked with a white stone in the turbulent history of the construction of the New Coastal Road. That day in Paris, Prime Minister Jean Castex and the president of the regional council Huguette Bello, signed a memorandum of understanding in Matignon in which the State undertakes to finance 50% of the viaduct which remains to be built to complete the NRL. The previous month, the Region had opted for this solution, rather than that of the dike initially planned. The exact cost of the viaduct of 2,5 km between Grande-Chaloupe and La Possession remains to be evaluated, but should therefore exceed 800 million euros. In total, the State's effort for this achievement will therefore be close to a billion euros, since it had already committed to the tune of 532 million euros in the previous Matignon agreement, signed with Didier Robert. Only the carriers find fault with this outcome. The night before the agreement was signed in Paris, they massed trucks in front of the Hôtel de Région in order to plead one last time for the dike solution, which would bring them several years of income-generating activities. Discussions are underway to calm their anger and convince them that other future projects are likely to keep them alive. The timetable for the construction of the viaduct now remains to be determined., which will require new studies before consulting companies. Obviously, we will not ride on the NRL, from start to finish, before the end of the decade.
