25 years of observation of Reunionese society

In the meeting, it is the retail trade that takes market share from mass distribution and not the other way around. Explication : the retail trade has become highly specialized and diversified after the development of large-scale distribution on the island, and not before like in mainland France. This is one of the observations put forward by Philippe Fabing, president and director of studies of the SAGIS Group, well-known specialist in opinion surveys and other marketing studies. Guest in this May issue of Leader Réunion, Philippe Fabing gives us the benefit of his 25 years of experience scrutinizing Reunion society and local markets (SAGIS was created in 1997). And what it highlights, through his observations and through the history of the SAGIS Group, these are the sometimes paradoxical specificities of the Reunion market, which make it “an almost unique market in the world” he says. A market that succeeds in its modernity while retaining its traditional roots.

Philippe Fabing puts into perspective the specificities that we know and those that we think we know. The SAGIS Group reflects this evolution, from the first marketing studies of its flow rates to the massive processing of commercial data by data science, including customer relations ensured by a highly efficient call center. Sustainable development in the broad sense, its perception by consumers, Is there a requested subject of study? ? We asked Philippe Fabing the question. Turns out that’s not really the case.. Is this not an additional paradox given the current situation in this area where local initiatives are legion? ? There are so many of them that we have chosen to bring together a few of them, among the most significant of the moment, in this issue and in the next one in June, with the aim of highlighting the concrete reality and diversity from one sector of activity to another. Finally, in this issue, we highlight the spirit of innovation through an educational establishment, Ma Kindy school. This opens two new establishments, and this is the opportunity to return to this bilingual educational experience, innovative, born and developed in Reunion.
