A new reference to accompany sunny moments : the Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra-Brut from Champagne de Saint-Gall, 100 % Chardonnay.
This exclusive vintage reveals the original essence of Chardonnay. In 1966, driven by common values and all classified as Grands and Premiers Crus, several Champagne cooperatives found Union Champagne : a cooperative of cooperatives which guarantees the supply of grapes from the most beautiful terroirs of Champagne. It is from this collective and voluntary commitment that the Saint-Gall Champagne vintages will be born.. Today more than 2,300 people (men and women winegrowers, workers, oenologists, etc.) from 15 cooperatives, put their skills and energy at the service of this human adventure.
The year 2016, majority in the assembly
Chardonnay is sublimated in this cuvée called Le Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra-Brut. It is made from grapes from our four villages classified as Grands Crus on the Côte des Blancs. :
Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant. Very little dose, this vintage is made with grapes picked at perfect maturity and vinified with precision know-how. The year 2016, majority in this assembly, was punctuated by a mild and sunny autumn, a winter of certain mildness, an extraordinarily rainy and cool spring. The summer was very dry and the harvest took place in mid-September in the Côte des Blancs. A complex year which gives a strong character to this vintage : or paille, fine and persistent foam, lemony notes, tonic, mineral, frank.
A privileged terroir
Champagne of Saint-Gall benefits from an exceptional terroir. Its vineyard extends over approximately 1400 hectares, of which 800 are planted in Chardonnay, mainly in the Côte des Blancs. Often nicknamed “birthplace of chardonnay”, the terroir of the Côte des Blancs allows the production of vintages of extreme finesse and great elegance. Singular and esteemed, this terroir only represents 10% of the entire Champagne vineyard.
