The deputy of Guadeloupe Christian Baptiste was to present on September 24 before the finance committee of the National Assembly the recommendations resulting from the consultation mission he led with overseas economic players, on the subject of exemptions from charges.
Christian Baptiste notably came to Reunion on September 15, to hear the concern generated locally by the possible calling into question of the law for the opening and economic development of Overseas Territories. Last May, a report produced by the General Inspectorate of Finance and the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs at the request of the government deplored the complexity of the system for exemptions from charges in the French Overseas Territories and its increasing cost. The report proposed two planing solutions, which could save the State several hundred million euros from 2026, to contribute to the budgetary restrictions required by the growth of the public deficit.
