Data.ai, the world leader in the analysis and valorization of mobile data, reveals its predictions for the mobile applications market in 2024.
The year 2023 was marked by the democratization of applications equipped with generative AI. 2024 will be a year where the increase in revenue and time spent on mobile applications will materialize. Users are spending more and more time on mobile applications : four hours a day for the French (a sixth of the day !), up to seven hours a day for Japanese and Koreans. In his new study, Data.ai reveals mobile app predictions for 2024, and gives a glimpse of who will be the big losers and big winners of the year. Pour Lexi Sydow, head of the Data.ai Insights unit, “2024 will unleash the next wave of AI innovation and cement a more authentic way to consume content, with a strong emphasis on video content”. She emphasizes that “the AI phenomenon has created new areas of application for chatbots and art generators., and made it possible to integrate new functionalities into all mobile services”.
The giants match
In 2024, Data.ai plans 2,3 billion app downloads with generative AI features. This 40% increase will represent 10% of all mobile app downloads. Déjà, in 2023, downloads of generative AI applications increased ninefold. Since its launch in July 2023, the ChatGPT mobile application has been downloaded more than 110 million times worldwide, but it is far from the only one of its kind. Since its acquisition by Elon Musk, the social network (formerly Twitter) never stops, on his side, to lose users. Its owner's attitude towards advertisers probably doesn't help matters. After a year-on-year decline of 11,8% in October 2023, Data.ai forecasts decline to 250 million active daily users, i.e. 66 million less compared to its peak dating from July 2022. Threads (META), launched in July 2023, now stabilizes at 20 million active daily users in November 2023, far from its peak of 61 million users the month of its launch.
TikTok revenue will surpass all others
In terms of income, TikTok will overtake the previously unbeatable Candy Crush Saga during the year, approaching $15 billion. Users of the famous Chinese app spend more than $11 million a day on tips for their favorite TikTokers. Having increased cumulative revenue by 70% over the past year, TikTok monetization growing three times faster than Candy Crush Saga, which started in 2012. This trend particularly reveals the speed at which mobile applications are monetizing : Disney+ expected to reach the USD 7 billion mark, Five years after its launch, while hit mobile game Genshin Impact will surpass 6 billion USD, in just four years.
More and more time spent and money spent
According to Lexi Sydow, Instagram and Snapchat revenues coming directly from users are expected to increase by… 152% in 2024 ! Since its launch in July 2023, the ChatGPT mobile application has been downloaded more than 110 million times worldwide, but it is far from the only one of its kind. By December 2024, users will spend up to 40 hours per month on TikTok, i.e. 13 hours more than on YouTube. In October 2023, users already passed 32,5 hours per month, compared to 11 hours per month in January 2020. Also in 2024, all social media applications will engage in direct consumer monetization, like TikTok’s lucrative In-App purchasing strategy. A real social phenomenon, Tik Tok has climbed into the top of the most used applications in the world.
