The iconic gin from the island of Islay strengthens its range by unveiling two product innovations : The Botanist Cask Rested et The Botanist Cask Aged. These new references are the result of a long, bold and innovative experiment carried out by the teams at the Bruichladdich distillery., renowned for its avant-garde spirit.
The Botanist Islay Dry Gin enjoys considerable success. It has become the fourth super premium gin by volume, winning numerous awards. The island of Islay is rich in flowers and botanical substances. It is this postulate that guided the creators of The Botanist, a couple of botanists in love with the island, doctors Richard and Mavis Gulliver, as well as the chai master of the Bruichladdich distillery. The Botanist Islay Dry Gin is made from 22 wild plants harvested on the island in spring and summer, all hand picked. Added to this are the nine essential ingredients to the gin recipe., used in maceration to enrich the aromatic complexity of the spirit. The Botanist gin is distilled in a unique still, a Lomond still, who was repatriated by boat to the island. Far from the elegant curves of the traditional still, the latter has been specially modified to allow distillation three times longer than that of whiskey and at very low pressure, which reinforces the exceptional character of this pure concentrate of Islay.
Two bold innovations
New creations, The Botanist Cask Rested et The Botanist Cask Aged, are the result of an experiment carried out by the teams at the Bruichladdich distillery. Renowned for its avant-garde whiskeys, the distillery now applies its exceptional know-how to aged gins. Adam Hannett, master distiller of the house, has more than 300 different barrels, new ones and barrels that previously contained red wine, sherry or American whiskey, to experience aging. Historically, aged gins (les golden gins) were common in the market due to the use of drums for transportation. This process involved an exchange between air, wood tannins and brandy, which gave birth to golden gins, even brown. But this color change was the result of a random process influenced by the duration of the journey and the interaction with the wood. Inspired by the world of tequila, notably reposado categories (rest of two months to a year) et aged (vieux), Adam Hannett transformed this tradition into a precise art.
THE BOSTANIST CASK RESTED
Aged for six months, this gin uses sixteen different types of barrels during its maturation. The majority comes from Bordeaux red wines such as Pauillac, Pomerol, Saint-Emilion as well as barrels of Sauternes and Pineau des Charentes. Aging in these barrels enriches the gin by providing an additional aromatic dimension while retaining its intrinsic characteristics. : very floral and minty on the botanical side.
THE BOTANIST CASK AGED
Aged for three years, this gin uses six varieties of barrels. The longer aging time means a reduction in the number of barrels used to maintain optimal balance. The barrels chosen include Bordeaux barrels such as Pauillac and Saint-Emilion as well as bourbon and rum barrels.. The Botanist Cask Aged differentiates itself with its soft and creamy character while retaining its gin backbone.
