This is what a study by the Premium Craft Spirits label indicates, founded by the large Peureux-Massenez distilleries, on the French's favorite spirits as the end-of-year holidays approach.

The Premium Craft Spirits spirits label (PCS), launched in 2021 by the major Peureux-Massenez distilleries, conducted a study on French consumption trends in this sector and particularly during the end-of-year holidays. Premium Craft Spirits makes the results of this study public at the end of the year.
The label is present in partner wine merchants and delicatessens where it offers a selection of spirits that are both classic and modern., even avant-garde, to meet all consumer demands. There are 90 brands from 75 different houses and 949 spirits references that PCS distributes, as well as big brands like Saint James, Glen Moray, Valleys, Jose Cuervo, than more confidential, exclusive brands like Sab’s (marc de bourgogne), Four Roosters (peruvien pisco), Villa Massa (amaretto)… The Premium Craft Spirits label study was carried out in April 2022 on a sample of 1,000 people aged 18 to 75..

A precious cocktail of numbers
Two findings serve as a backdrop to this study. The first : the wine and spirits sector achieved a turnover of 15 billion euros in 2021, according to the Federation of Wine and Spirits Exporters of France (FEVS). The second : 18% of French people buy their spirits from a wine merchant, according to the newspaper Le Figaro. As for the PCS study itself, it shows that whiskey is the favorite spirit of the French (45 %) in front of the rum (27 %), la vodka (12 %) and gin (6 %). More precisely, Vodka is the favorite spirit of young people (18-24 ans). Rum, the favorite spirit of young adults (25-34 ans). Le whisky, the favorite spirit of adults and seniors (35-75 ans). How do the French consume spirits? ? They are the majority (53 %) to consume them in cocktails, mainly women (69 %). The tradition of a digestive at the end of a meal remains very strong : 73% of French people finish their festive meals with a digestive. Another key figure, confirming the importance of the holidays for the sector : according to the study, 63% of French people plan to give spirits as end-of-year party gifts. Finally, the PCS study wanted to know if the French took into account the history of the product and its artisanal character in their purchasing decision. The answer is a plebiscite : 85% of respondents said this was the case.
